Twitter had a field day when Biocon founder got stuck in a traffic jam
Bengaluru: Twitteratis flooded with their opinion on traffic after Biocon founder, Kiran Mazumdar Shaw's tweet wherein she expressed her perception over lane discipline on being stuck in heavy traffic. The Tweet by the Biotechnology leader over traffic rule enforcement in Bengaluru soon went viral. Many backed her opinion while many are left outraged.
Stuck in a traffic jam, Mz Shaw tweeted
Stuck at traffic light becos some joker is in free left lane but wants to turn right. Shdnt such folk be dealt with firmly? Or shd we just accept such traffic violators?
— Kiran Mazumdar Shaw (@kiranshaw) January 14, 2019
The tweet suggested traffic police to “dent the bonnets of erring drivers with lathis” to enforce lane discipline and ensure removal of congestion.
If our traffic police can enforce lane discipline like they do in Chennai & Mumbai half of Bengaluru’s traffic gridlock will be eliminated. All they need is to dent the bonnets of erring drivers with lathis n then no one will err @blrcitytraffic @CMofKarnataka @BPACofficial

Many backed her opinion, those who face similar issues while in traffic came forth with their outlook about developing a civic sense and embarking corrective measures by the authorities.
Dr Sudarshan Balla tweeted,
Kiran absolute lack of civic sense with no respect or fear of the law is a major reason 4 this chaos Civic society leaders like you along with @CPBlr @AddlCPTraffic @blrcitytraffic could embark on an awareness drive with a stringent punitive action by the police may help

Agree. If lane discipline is followed traffic will flow lot faster. Irony is even the educated elite don’t follow it. Even though it’s common sense

Traffic police should take firm steps. Road discipline should be taught to the people to take menacing traffic problem. Your suggestion is quite right to curb this.

Plus dent bonnets of illegally parked vehicles on roads
— Ramesh Hande (@RameshHande) January 13, 2019
Absolutely Kiran ji , I completely agree. Specifically, Water tankers, school buses, lorry's, trucks, Force-10 office employee pickup/drop vans ... their bonnets should be badly DENTED. They take U-turn , crash you from no where ...

Shaw's suggestion was however not much appreciated by netizens. The tweet also faced a backlash from many.
First biocon should stop polluting the ground water in Bommanahalli.

Dent bonnets? That's a bit aggressive... right? Fine them heavily on the spot after doing an education drive for a month. The suggestion u r giving might eventually become a law and order situation.

Shaw in response to this further tweeted,
Not at all. In Mumbai n Chennai that’s what they do n no driver dares to break lane discipline - that’s the only thing that will work. Measures like warnings n fines don’t work
— Kiran Mazumdar Shaw (@kiranshaw) January 13, 2019
Vijay Singhal further disagreed with Shaw’s opinion and tweeted,
I am a Mumbaikar and can proudly say most folks do maintain lane discipline. If there are folks who break lane or do wrong side driving, they are dealt as per https://t.co/ti667Mh7s1 certain suburbs, locals adopt such measures of denting bonnets when things go out of hand.

Madame you are not some queen victoria. All the time complaining about Bangalore while exploiting the resources here.
— Kulakclass (@vasudev12498056) January 14, 2019
Each one of us is part of the problem. "Public, Govt & Politicians", so let's not complain. Remember, when u point a finger at someone else, the rest point towards U....
