    Pharma Research being promoted by ICMR, others; Minister apprises parliament of initiatives

    Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Ashwini Kumar Choubey while responding to the same stated that research in the field of pharmaceutical science, is being supported by the Indian Council of Medical Research(ICMR) through a number of initiatives like Centres for Advance Research, Task Force Projects, Adhoc Schemes and Fellowships in various research institutions, medical colleges and universities across the country.


    New Delhi: Through a recent reply, the Minister in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) informed the Parliament about the measures taken by the Government for enhancing research work in the field of pharmaceutical science.


    The reply came in response to a question raised by Lal Sinh Vadodia in the Rajya Sabha wherein he asked if the country is facing a lack of research work in the field of pharmaceutical science and if the Government is considering on enhancing the research work in this sector.


    Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Ashwini Kumar Choubey while replying stated that research in the field of pharmaceutical science, is being supported by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) through a number of initiatives like Centres for Advance Research, Task Force Projects, Adhoc Schemes and Fellowships in various research institutions, medical colleges and universities across the country.

    He further highlighted that the Department of Biotechnology is also implementing National Biopharma Mission programme for accelerating Discovery Research to early development for Biopharmaceuticals. Under a specific call on Repurposing of Drugs, R&D projects in a various disease area, have been supported.


    Department of Science and Technology funds collaborative projects under Pubic Private Partnership. 57 state-of-the-art infrastructure for pharmaceutical R&D, has been created and Grants-in-aid to Indian Pharma Industries is extended for clinical trials in neglected diseases including malaria, kala-azar etc, the minister added.
