NPPA to revise ceiling price of Silver Sulphadiazine cream 1 pc; direct manufacturers to furnish data
New Delhi: Through a recent Office Memorandum, National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) has informed that it will soon revise the ceiling price of scheduled formulation Silver Sulphadiazine Cream 1%.
In this regard, the regulatory body has sought data from the manufacturers of the said formulation to be submitted by 14th May 2019.
Silver Sulphadiazine is sold under various brand names including Silvadene, Silverex, Silverol, Silveleb, Silvazine, Flamazine, Thermazene, BurnHeal, and others. The medication is sold by different drugmakers.
The drug is a topical antibiotic used in partial thickness and full thickness burns to prevent infection. This prescription medicine works by stopping the growth of bacteria that may infect an open wound.
The move comes following various representations received by NPPA for revision in the ceiling price quoting the ceiling price being unviable. The present applicable ceiling price of Silver Sulphadiazine cream 1% is Rs. 0.29/- per gram notified vide SO 1485(E) dated 29.03.2019.
The matter was discussed in Authority meeting dated 24.04.2019 and it was decided to seek the data from manufacturers of the formulation. Therefore, the manufacturers of Silver Sulphadiazine cream 1% are hereby directed to furnish the data for the month of August 2015 in the format provided below with copies of invoices.
