Chennai: Through a recent order, the Tamil Nadu Government has clearly defined timings of 8 hours of work each day for the Medical Representatives (MRs) and Sales Representatives in the state.

The notification issued by the State Government stated that the work hours for medical (MRs)and sale representatives have been fixed by the authority as 9 in the morning till 5 in the evening while 1 pm till 2 pm would be their lunch hour. At the beginning of the day, an hour has been assigned for administrative and preparatory work. It was also clarified that the working hours for sales promotion employees should not surpass 54 hours in a week including overtime.

“Sales promotion employees are entitled to overtime at double the normal wages,” reads the notification.

The order has indeed come as a great relief for the medical and sales representatives in the state as the issues pertinent to work hours and salary have been a bone of contention for long. Not just the Earlier this year, the state of Punjab witnessed a protest march that was carried out by the members of the Punjab and Chandigarh Medical and Sales Representatives Union (PCMSRU) and Punjab Medical Representatives Association (PMRA), Bathinda, demanding fixed minimum wages and the need for fixed eight working hours for medical representatives as there was no clarity about the time of the day these working hours applied.
