    Huge consignment of fake, prohibited medicines seized in Amroha, four held

    Amroha: Local police and drugs department in a joint operation seized huge consignment of fake and prohibited medicines in Hasanpur area.


    Assistant drugs commissioner Moradabad R P Pandey here said that acting on a tip-off, a team of drug inspectors of Amroha, Moradabad, and Sambhal raided a godown of medicine and seized huge consignment of fake medicines with labels of renowned pharmaceutical companies' names.


    Mr. Pandey said that the raid was conducted in a sequence of medical store raids in which several fake medicines were recovered. A supplier was also arrested.


    Sources linked with police and drug department said that fake medicine racket has roots in Gorakhpur and medicines were being distributed in UP, Uttarakhand, and Delhi. The arrested supplier revealed some names connected to the racket following the leads police raided on many medical stores and godowns.


    Neeraj Sharma, Salim Ahmad, Deepanshu Tomar and Mahendra Singh were arrested for their direct involvement in the fake drug supply racket. The arrested accused told that the racket was being operated from long time.


    TOI reports that a case has been registered at the Hasanpur police station under sections 274 (adulteration of drugs), 275 (sale of adulterated drugs) and 276 (sale of drug as a different drug or preparation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and various sections of the NDPS and the Drugs and Cosmetics Acts.
