GST to benefit common man: Shripad Naik

Panaji: Union Minister for AYUSH, Shripad Naik said apart from streamlining the tax regime in the country, the Goods and Services Tax (GST) will benefit common man at large.

Inaugurating 'Vartalaap' Media Outreach Programme, organised by Press Information Bureau (PIB) under the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting in the city, Mr Naik said the consensus given by all political parties for unified tax regime was an indication of a matured democracy.

The Union Minister said tax regime was the backbone of country's economy and hence it needed to be more simpler and streamlined.

Delivering his keynote address, GST commissioner K Anpazhakan said with the launch of GST the much awaited indirect tax system had been evolved in the country. Stating that GST rested on the idea of One Nation One Tax, he said it would lead to economic ease besides country's growth rate would increase by one to two per cent.

The Vartalaap Progrmamme evoked a good response with participation of over 35 journalists. Assistant Commissioners of Central Excise and Customs Gaurav Jain and Himani Dhamija guided the deliberations at the programme.
