    Drug controllers seize spurious and expired medicines worth Rs 10 crore in Patna

    Drug controllers seize spurious and expired medicines worth Rs 10 crore in Patna
    Patna: Bihar Drug Controller and Bihar police recently raided the godowns of a drug company and seized fake and expired medicines worth over Rs 10 crore.

    TOI reports that raid was conducted on the premises of Drug Company Mssrs Aditya Pharma on Govind Mitra Road and houses and godowns in Bengali Akhara, Patrakar Nagar and Biscomaun Colony areas on Friday. The drug sleuths also raided house of officials of company and scrapstore in Sandalpur, Bahadurpur locality recovering huge quantity of expired medicines and recycled syringes.

    "We had to use four trucks to transport the seized consignments consisting of expired and spurious medicines of branded pharmaceutical firms, lifesaving drugs, surgical equipment and recycled and relabelled syringes," Patna SSP Manu Maharaaj told TOI.

    Officials estimate that the cost of seized goods is going to cross Rs. 10 crore."It's still counting. A final figure will emerge by tomorrow evening," said Maharaaj.

    The seized items also included fake and expired baby oils, drip kits, tuberculosis drugs, cough syrups for children and Multivitamin according to drug inspector Sachchidanand Prasad.
    Mr. Ravi Shankar Kumar proprietor of Aditya Pharma and Amit Kumar were arrested while they were allegedly packaging expired drugs and syringes in a house in Bangali Akhara.


    "One Ramesh Kumar Pathak, who owns the godown at Alamganj, was the kingpin of the massive racket. He, however, managed to escape," Prasad said.


    According to the police sources these spurious drugs were being supplied to drug stores in various districts of Bihar. They along with the State health department's drug control wing had been keeping tab on the activities of gang for last six months on the basis of intelligence inputs which culminated in the raid .
