Spurious Calcimax 500 drug worth Rs 95,000 seized by Maharashtra FDA

Mumbai: In a raid last week Maharashtra FDA is reported to have seized spurious drugs from two different firms worth Rs 95,000 and a FIR was filed against it at Kalachowki police station.


Maharashtra FDA raided Kailash pharma, a distributor and a retailer based at Kalachowki and seized a stock of fake Calcimax 500 tablets. Calcimax 500 is originally manufactured by Meyer Organics Pvt Ltd.Calcimax Tablet is used for Bone formation, Vitamin d deficiency, Low blood calcium level, Blood coagulation, Stomach acid, Skin infection and other conditions.


During the raid, stock worth Rs 75,000 had been seized from Kailash Pharma and worth Rs 20,000 had been seized from the other retailer shop.


According to the officials after the investigation, it was found that the drug was purchased from another wholesaler in Vapi, Gujarat by Kailash Pharma.


Speaking with Indian Express, an official said, “We do not know who is manufacturing the spurious drug. There were slight differences in external strip of spurious and original drug. The printing on the label is different.” He also added that the drug would undergo laboratory test to assess its composition.
