Online pharmacy loses medicines worth Rs 11 lakh to theft

Bangalore: A shocking revelation comes for the one of the country's largest online pharmacy, Medlife International Private Limited as two of its employees have been allegedly involved in stealing medicines to sell to other medical stores at a cheaper rate.

According to a recent media report, medicines worth Rs 11 lakh have allegedly been stolen from Medlife's Basaweshwaranagar branch by two of its employees.

The matter came to light after a recent internal audit for the company that disclosed that the stocks started reducing as compared to the actual sales. Following this, a complaint was filed by the company’s management with the Magadi Road police.

The case relates to two employees of the company, identified as AS Ragotham Raju and KS Sridhar. The duo was working as Fulfillment Centre Associates.

The alleged theft is suspected to have happening for quite some time. Maximum medicines stolen were related to women health.

Strong suspicion built after the audit was conducted it was found that medicines worth Rs 11.91 lakh were missing. Hence, NS Sriman, of the Medlife International Private Ltd filed the complaint.

“The complainant has claimed that the audit was done between February 15th to 24th and it was found that medicines worth Rs 11.91 lakh went missing. Suspecting the role of the two employees, they filed a complaint. The company’s head office is located at IBC Knowledge Park on Bannerghatta Main Road,” an officer who is a part of the investigations told Bangalore Mirror.

However, out of the two suspects, one is said to have been arrested and 50 per cent of the stolen medicines have been recovered. He has confessed to stealing the medicines to sell to other medical stores for cheaper rates.

The police are on the lookout for the other accused and are yet to recover another half of the stolen medicines.

Confirmation of the incident was given to the daily by NS Sriman who stated that, “The two employees were working as Fulfillment Centre Associates. Of the two one has been arrested." Sriman however, refused to disclose more information about the incident.

A case of theft by clerk or servant of property in possession of master under section 381 of the IPC has been registered by the Magadi Road police.
