NPPA fixes ceiling price of painkiller, tetanus injections; Details
New Delhi: Through a recent notification, the drug price regulatory agency, the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) has fixed the ceiling price of three drug formulations namely, Ibuprofen Capsule 200mg, Tetanus Toxoid (0.5ML) and Tetanus Toxoid (5ML) under the Drugs (Prices Control) Order, 2013 exclusive of goods and services tax (GST)
Ibuprofen was discovered in 1961 by Stewart Adams and initially marketed as Brufen. It is available under a number of trade names, including Advil and Motrin.
The drug is indicated for treating pain, fever, and inflammation. This includes painful menstrual periods, migraines, and rheumatoid arthritis. It may also be used to close a patent ductus arteriosus in a premature baby.
Presently, the ceiling price of the drug as decided by NPPA reads;

Further, the prices of Tetanus Toxoid injections have been fixed by NPPA following the directions given by the Department of Pharmaceuticals (DoP) while allowing the review petition filed by Biological E Limited. Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that in its decision, DoP had ordered NPPA to refix the ceiling prices of the vaccine on merit, separately for 0.5 ml ampoules and 5ml vials.
Tetanus Toxoid Vaccine is given to provide protection (immunity) against tetanus (lockjaw)in adults and children 7 years or older.
