New Delhi: Elderly chemist murdered by Gym Trainer allegedly over purchase of viagra

New Delhi: In a shocking incident, a 50-year-old chemist was allegedly murdered by a gym trainer following an altercation over the purchase of viagra medicines at the shop. In a fit of anger, the trainer shot the elderly chemist and fled away. However, he was soon arrested by the police from Pankha Road.


As per various media accounts, the incident took place on December 7, 2019, inside the chemist shop near Mahaveer Enclave in Palam village. Different accounts of the reason was altercation have cropped up. Indian Express reports that a 30-year-old man identified as Neeraj Gupta, who works at a gym in Chanakyapuri visited the shop to buy viagra. However, the chemist allegedly mocked at him for the same.

Soon, the argument got heated up and the trainer pulled out a pistol and shot the chemist and fled from the spot. Meanwhile, the chemist was rushed to a private hospital, however, he passed away on December 8.


“The incident took place on December 7 at a medical store near Mahaveer Enclave in Palam village, when Gupta had gone to buy viagra from Sanjeev Kumar’s shop. Kumar allegedly mocked Gupta, who then took out his pistol and shot him. He then fled while Kumar was rushed to a hospital. He died during treatment on December 8,” an officer told Indian Express.

The matter was intervened by the police and a case of murder was registered against Gupta. A team of four members were constituted to nab the accused, who was identified after going through the CCTV footage.


Based on a tip-off a trap was laid and the accused was chased for a short while before he was finally nabbed from Pankha Road.


The pistol used to shoot the chemist was seized. The murder weapon was legally procured last month after an IPS officer gave his reference to the licencing unit, adds The Indian Express. Apart from the pistol, a motorcycle and 10 live cartridges were also taken into custody.


Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southwest) Devender Arya told PTI, "He was planning to leave Delhi and go to Raipur in Chhattisgarh at his in-laws' place. A trap was laid and after a brief chase, the accused was nabbed from Pankha Road."


During the investigation, it was found that the accused had purchased medicines from the victim’s shop earlier as well.
