Mizoram health deptt officials seize 52 vials of Hepatitis B vaccines

Aizawl : Mizoram Health Department's Food and Drugs Administration officials seized 52 vials of medicine used by members of some NGOs who were engaged in administering Hepatitis B vaccines to public without permission from the government.


Joint Director of Food and Drugs Administration Lalsawma told that investigation was launched into the activities of the NGOs involved in the practice.


"The medicine was manufactured by a reputed Pune-based company, but the investigation will delve into the mode of transport and whether strict rules were maintained during the transportation," Lalsawma said.


He said the matter was very serious as it could affect the lives of many people.


The health department officials found domestic refrigerator was used by the NGO workers for storage of the vials, while use of Ice Liner Refrigerator was mandatory as per the medical norms.


He expressed the hope that detailed investigation would bring the whole matter to the light soon.
