Medical Stores Must Display their Licenses: Punjab & Haryana Court

Chandigarh: To curb the sale of addictive and intoxicant drugs in the belt, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has directed the administrations both the Punjab and Haryana states to ensure the presence of a licensed pharmacist in person at medical stores.

A division bench comprising Justice Surya Kant and Justice Sudip Ahluwalia passed the order in response to suggestions made by amicus curiae Navkiran Singh stating that

1 All the pharmacy shops must display their licenses at a prominent place in the chemist shop and regular monitoring of such shops by concerned authorities.

2 Court instructed the authorities to ensure the time to time verification of the all the medical stores.

The court came into actions after the amicus curiae, Navkiran Singh informed the high court that several chemist shops are run by unauthorised persons who are not actually registered pharmacists, who have licenses earned against a monthly rent. To ensure the proper implementation of the rules, the state high court has asked the administrations of Punjab and Haryana and Chandigarh to file a status report on the issue. Next hearing is on July 31
