Bijnor: After a raid was conducted by a team of officials on medical stores in different parts of Bijnor district, the drug administration has cancelled the license of 34 medical stores due to the detection of irregularities in sale and purchase of medicines and violation of norms. Out of 34 medical stores, most of them are located in rural areas.

TOI reports that it is mandatory for a pharmacist to be in a medical store but during the raid no pharmacist was present at the shops, officials said.

Drugs inspector Ashutosh Kumar said, “There are around 3,000 medical stores in the district. The owner of several medical stores had not renewed their licence. Some days ago, we had conducted raids on many medical stores and found 34 medical stores whose owners did not get their licence renewed by the department. Besides, no pharmacist was present at the stores.”

“We had sent a list of these medical stores to higher authorities. Now, on Saturday, their licences have been cancelled. Most of them are located in rural areas.” Kumar added. “The drive is on and our team will raid all medical stores to check their documents and know whether they are complying with norms or not,” he added.

The drug administration is a wing of the Food Safety and Drug Administration department.
