New Delhi: Government is looking at introducing a new National Pharmaceuticals Policy and is already in the process of working out details, Parliament was informed.

"The government is contemplating to introduce a new National Pharmaceuticals Policy. The details are being worked out," Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilisers Mansukh L Mandaviya told Lok Sabha in a written reply.

Replying to a query on the time frame for coming out with the new policy, he added: "No time limit can be indicated at this stage."

The new pharma policy would replace the existing National Pharmaceutical Pricing Policy, 2012 -which forms the core of the Drugs Price Control Order, 2013.

Government controls the prices of all essential medicines as well as many other pharmaceutical products including stents and medical devices through the policy.
