Chennai: NBFC firm Fullerton India Credit Company Limited on Thursday launched a mobile healthcare van in Villuppuram district of Tamil Nadu.

The mobile van was launched by Fullerton India-Uday as part of its 'Niramaya' healthcare initiative in partnership with Americares India Foundation. The Uday initiative focuses on eliminating the complicacies in accessing healthcare services in rural areas through mobile medical clinics, a company release here said.

The mobile health van would be accessible in villages in and around the Villuppuram district and would provide primary healthcare services and free medicines to patients at different villages. The mobile health van aims to benefit over 15,000 households through this initiative. Medicines for common ailments such as hypertension, diabetes, and Arthritis would be available at the van and would be issued to patients free of cost.

Whenever required, patients would be referred to pathological laboratories for detailed investigation for further special treatment and care. This partnership with Americares India Foundation and the linkages established with the government and other healthcare providers in the vicinity would enable better treatment for the referral cases at a subsidised cost.

Commenting on the initiative, Fullerton India CEO and MD Ms Rajashree Nambiar said one of the biggest challenges in rural India was that essential healthcare and social support services were unavailable, inaccessible or unaffordable. ''By providing professional healthcare services in Villipuram district and its periphery, we are not only ensuring that the residents are educated about the importance of healthcare and the need for regular health check-ups, but also providing primary healthcare services'', she said.
