NPPA fixes retail price of 29 drug formulations including BP, Cholesterol, pain medications; Details

The NPPA order is likely to affect various drug majors including Lupin, Sun Pharmaceuticals, GlaxoSmithKline and Cadila Pharmaceuticals.

New Delhi: The drug price regulator National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) has recently fixed the retail price of 29 formulations including BP medicines, Cholesterol medicines and pain medicines. The order comes in effect from the date of issue that is 25th January 2019

The NPPA order is likely to affect various drug majors including Lupin, Sun Pharmaceuticals, GlaxoSmithKline and Cadila Pharmaceuticals.

Some of the formulations whose price has been fixed by the NPPA are Mesalazine, also known as Mesalamine or Mesacol manufactured and marketed by Sun Pharma is an anti-inflammatory drug while Cadila healthcare provides a wide range of Zydus generics which includes Atorvastatin tablets 10mg is also a part of the recent 29 drug formulations. Metoprolol Tartrate, a combination drug by Lupin too is included in the list.

The notification released by NPPA added that the manufacturer may add goods and services tax(GST) only if they have paid actually or it is payable to the Government on the retail price as mentioned.
