FIR against Hetero and Aurobindo pharma

HYDERABAD: 13 pharmaceutical companies have got notices from Telangana State Pollution Control Board (TSPCB) for contaminating and polluting Kazipally lake and Gaddapotharam lake by discharging the chemical waste of their plants in these lakes a recent report in TOI has stated.

The notices were served on the companies after the preliminary confirmation was given by the PCB officials that the chemical contaminations of the lakes due to chemical discharges of the pharma companies are responsible for the death of fish in large numbers. The samples were taken and sent to the PCB central laboratory in Sanatnagar for conducting the laboratory tests for which results are still waiting.

After getting a complaint from the fisheries cooperative society of Gandigudem, FIR was filed against the pharma companies in Kazipally and Gaddapotharam industrial areas situated along the drain including Hetro pharma, Aurobindo pharma and Divis labs by Ameenpur police after which preliminary examination was done by Telangana State Pollution Control Board.

The confirmation of the same was given by environmental engineer K Ravi Kumar , Ramachandrapuram Pollution Control Board (PCB) regional office to TOI who informed that notices were served on Mylan Labs, SMS Pharma, DSDF Ramky, Kekule Pharma, Yag Mag pharma, Virchow pharma and Leepharma for Kazipally lake contamination and Rakshi Pharma, Vivin Lab, Mahalakshmi, Mekalab, Veda and Southwhale for contamination in Gaddapotharam lake .

Speaking to the daily, He further said, “Notice has been served under section 33A of the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act 1974 on these 13 companies after physical inspection. The companies Hetero, Aurobindo and Vantech, which were named in the FIR by Ameenpur police following a complaint by the fisheries cooperative society of Gandigudem, are not in the list as we did not find harmful discharges from these companies. Other companies such as Sriram Pharma, MNR and Divis that we inspected on Thursday are also not in the list for the same reason. However, all these companies situated along the drain will be called for hearing and asked to explain the remedial measures they need to take.”
