Changing labels to sell Expired Drugs: Govt Cancels Licenses of Mahalaxmi Traders

PATNA: Licenses of Mahalaxmi Traders' has cancelled by the state health department for the trading of expired drugs after a supplementary investigation conducted by the drug control wing of the department.


In April this year, health department had raided the Mahalaxmi Traders at Ashok Rajpath and seized the vials of expired anti-snake venom and antibiotic injections which were meant for supply in state government hospitals after that a supplementary investigation was carried out.


During the raid 61 types of drugs were seized which were either expired or restamped with changed labels of MRP, expiry date, and date of manufacturing etc. whereas the labels of the seized snake venom antiserum vials had tampered. The MRP was increased from Rs 607 to Rs 1500.


Patna drug inspector, Sachchidanand Prasad told TOI, "The order for cancellation of licences was issued on Monday.”


The department had also cancelled the license of Sources in health Sri Hanuman Agency, which was run by a relative of Mahalaxmi Traders owner for selling fake and sub-standard drugs following raids in April this year.


Sources in drug control wing said they were taking decisions very cautiously as they feared threat from people involved in the illegal drugs trade.
