Caught on Camera: Robbers strike at chemist shop in Okhla; flee with Rs 1 lakh cash at gunpoint

New Delhi: In the wee hours of Tuesday morning, three armed men barged into a chemist shop in Sarai Jullena village in Okhla which is a suburban colony in South Delhi and is also known as the Okhla Industrial Area or Okhla Industrial Estate. The staffs were held hostages at gunpoint while robbing the shop for around Rs 1 lakh cash. The entire heist at the Sanjeevani chemist shop has been caught in a video footage by CCTV cameras installed inside the medical store which has gone viral.


The robbery took place around 4am when cashier Shyamlal and shop employee Jai Singh were present in the 24x7 medical store owned by Mayank Garg in the Sarai Jullena locality. The CCTV clip shows three men entering the chemist shop. In order to conceal their identity, one of the trio was seen wearing a helmet while the two of them had masked their faces with handkerchiefs.


Thereafter,one of them sat on a stool in the middle of the store and kept an eye on the employees, having threatened them not to cry for help, the other two started rummaging around for cash. In the video,the robbers can be seen emptying the cash boxes and also snatching the mobile phones of the two shop employees and fleeing away while point guns at them.

According to a report by PTI, the Police said that they received information about the incident at around 5 am in Sarai Jullena village.






A case under section 392 (Punishment for Robbery) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered and several police teams have been formed to nab the culprits, the DCP said, adding that further investigation is underway.

Besides the local police, the Crime Branch and Special Cell have also been asked to help in the case.


Based on the CCTV footage, the police have reportedly prepared an electronic route likely to have been taken by the culprits. The couple of employees of the store have been interrogated for clues on the dialect the robbers used and for peculiarities in their mannerisms and actions. Based on this, the robbers’ possible physical appearances are being studied and the details will be circulated among police informers for help in identifying them. Police told TOI that they hoped to make a breakthrough soon.
