Biocon to invest in Uttar Pradesh health sector

BENGALURU: Biocon Ltd, a biopharma company is going to invest in the health sector of Uttar Pradesh to encourage the startups and entrepreneurs in the biotech areas to work in the state.


Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, CEO of Biocon met with industrial development minister of UP Satish Mahana and other senior officials of UP government during a road show organized by UP government in Bengaluru as a pioneer to the investors' summit in February 2018 where she said that she will invest in the health sector of UP.


A member of UP delegation told TOI, "She said that a survey should be conducted in all districts of UP, including Gorakhpur, for starting e-health care centres under a pilot project. She further suggested that a campaign be launched to attract investors in the health sector."


The road show in Bengaluru was the second of six road shows being organized by the UP government across India to build up to the main event in Lucknow on February 21-22, 2018.


Satish Mahana told TOI, "UP has increased the limit of start-up corpus fund from Rs 100 crore to Rs 1,000 crore. Exemptions have been provided in electricity bills, reimbursement of provident fund and a self-attestation system will remain in force as these were in force prior to the introduction of the new policy."


Infrastructure and Industrial Development Commissioner Anup Chandra Pandey said,"Project developers will be provided with 'no-objection certificates', a full exemption in stamp fee and electricity cess for 10 years on purchasing ceiling land of at least 5.058 hectares. All solar energy generation projects will be given exemption from obtaining environmental NOC," he said.
