9 arrested for manufacturing spurious drug

Agartala: Nine people were held for manufacturing spurious drugs and they were sent to the five days police custody for further investigation by the local court.


TOI reports that West Tripura police had arrested Biswajit Chakraborty (39), Subir Majumder (32), Tamal Das (18), Subra Deb (40), Bishnu Paul (35), Chentu Sarkar (28), Tapash Dhar (30), Dilip Das (30) and Sagar Debbarma (19) at Arundhutinagar here on Tuesday.

SP Ajit Pratap Singh, West Tripura told TOI, "We had received information about the operation. We raided the house of one Subir Majumder at Mission Road in the locality. During the raid, we seized a large quantity of raw material (used for making the banned drug Phensedyl), comprising contraband chemicals."

280 bottles of intake Phensedyl, 6,175 empty corks, 120 empty bottles, 15 kg sugar, 7 kg saccharine, 3 kg baking soda and 50 liters raw liquid Phensedyl - all of which were being used to manufacture adulterated Phensedyl were seized by Police.


The spurious drugs were supplying to different local markets besides by the unit and also smuggled to the neighboring country.
